Scleral Contact Lenses
In keeping with our promise to bring you the latest in contact lens advancements/technology, we are pleased to offer the SCLERAL CONTACT LENS. A hard contact lens, these lenses are different from other hard lenses in that they rest ("sit") directly on the sclera, or "white part" of the eye as opposed to the very sensitive cornea which allows for greater comfort while wearing.
Scleral Contact Lenses, while being the newest thing in contacts, are on old idea. In fact, over a century ago the very first contact was a scleral lens but was made of glass. Today's scleral lenses are now made of oxygen permeable plastic with extremely precise curves and advanced design. This results in a lens that can exceed the comfort of a soft lens but with more crisp, consistent vision and durability like that of a traditional oxygen "gas permeable" lens. In addition, they can last for one of more years.
The Scleral Contact Lens is ideal for a multitude of people and eye conditions such as high astigmatism, irregular corneas due to keratoconnus, refractive surgery complications (LASIK and RK), and post corneal transplants.
